Spotlight On
Tanya Tucker at the Wild Horse Pass Hotel &
Casino in Chandler, Arizona Story and Photos by
Glenda S. Paradee
The legend of
country music, Tanya Tucker, performed live at the Wild Horse Pass
Hotel & Casino in Chandler, Arizona on December 4, 2015 to a
sold out show. Tanya is such an incredible performer,
it's easy to see why the audience loves her. Tucker started
off her show singing 'Some Kind of Trouble', 'I'll Come Back As
Another Women', then 'Hangin' In'. Tucker said one of her
favorites is Merle Haggard and she just found out he is in the
hospital. She will be taking over his show in Las Vegas at the
Nugget until he is better. She then dedicated the song 'Strong
Enough To Bend' to him.
Tucker said she has not been out on the road for four years and
she thanked all her fans for her #1 hits. Tanya said she has
had a long career, she started early. Tucker then sang her old
hit 'The Jamestown Ferry', (Without You) What Do I Do With Me', and
'It Won't Be Me'.
She was recently interviewed by Dan Rather for two hours, she
said Rather is a big country music fan and his favorite song is
'Window Up Above' by George Jones, so she dedicated the song to Dan
Rather.
Next, Tucker sang 'If Your Heart Ain't Busy Tonight'. After
she sang it she sipped on a drink and then told the audience, "It
used to be vodka, now I drink 5 hour energy drink. Got a good
laugh. Tucker then sang, 'Love Me Like You Used To', 'Oh What
It Did To Me', and 'It's A Little Too Late'. She next put on a
top hat with a feather in it and sang 'Lizzie And The Rainman', and
then 'Texas (When I Die)'.
Tucker then talked about her Mom and Dad and that they both have
passed now and it has been really hard for her. Her father was
her manager all her life, so it was hard to get back on the road
again after he passed, but she said she learned many great lessons
from both her Mom and Dad. She also talked about Glen Campbell
and was happy his daughter was in the audience. She then dedicated
the song 'Two Sparrows In A Hurricane' to them.
Tucker ended her show by singing the first verse of 'Amazing
Grace' and then went into 'Delta Dawn'. Everyone stood up
and gave her a standing ovation and then she shook hands with all
the fans that came up to the stage. Tanya put on a
fantastic show. She looked great and sounded great.
Tucker also said she is putting together a new album out
soon. She said she has broke the record on how long it has
taken to make a record. So when it comes out, make sure you go
get it. She said it will be her best one yet!
Tanya also took the time to have a special meet and greet with
her fans and I was lucky enough to get to visit with her and
introduce her to my sister Theresa. Tanya really does love her
fans and said she is so thankful for them all these years.
Tanya Tucker is one of my most favorite performers! When
she comes to your town, make sure you go see her.
We are glad you are back performing Tanya, and we all
look forward to hearing more music from you in years to come!

More on Tanya:
A defining voice of country music and a modern day legend, Tanya
Tucker inspired many female artists who still top the charts today.
From the signature classic songs to the unforgettable sass and soul
of her voice, Tucker has paved a path in country music and beyond
through an unprecedented level of success and continues her
longevity today due to a natural, undeniable talent.
When producer Billy Sherrill received a demo tape of Tucker, he
quickly signed her to a record deal at Columbia Records. Her style
has proven to be timeless ever since she recorded her debut single
"Delta Dawn," at age 13. The single earned a Grammy nomination for
"Best Female Country Vocal Performance" and launched Tucker into the
national spotlight during the beginning of her teenage years.
In 1972, she earned the "Top New Female Vocalist" award by the
Academy of Country Music. With a wildly growing career at such a
young age, the Tucker craze continued with her first number one
single, in 1973, "What's Your Mama's Name."
Tucker achieved an unusual feat for a female country artist at
the time with a 1974 Rolling Stone cover story with the headline,
"Hi, I'm Tanya Tucker, I'm 15, You're Gonna Hear From Me." As
additional hits continued, Tucker added an edgy rock image, which
she still embraces, to her musical taste with the album T.N.T, which
was released in 1978. The gold certified album peaked at number two
on the album charts. Through a collaborative relationship with Glen
Campbell, Tucker transitioned to a new label in the early 1980's and
was back in the Top 10 with "Can I See You Tonight," co-written by
hitmaker Deborah Allen (Patty Loveless). Just a few years later,
Tucker experienced another hit with "One Love at a Time," co-written
by Paul Overstreet (Randy Travis, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton).
With four additional number one charted hits between 1986-1988,
Tucker's career, nearly two decades already underway, was proving to
be one for the record books.
The 1990's gave rise to some of Tucker's most recognizable and
career defining songs, "Two Sparrows in a Hurricane" and "It's a
Little Too Late." New albums, along with multiple versions of
greatest hits and live compilation projects, propelled Tucker to
become one of the best selling female artists in country music. With
a 1994 Super Bowl XXVIII halftime appearance, Tucker was a household
name to stay.
Tucker's latest honor, a special exhibit at the Country Music
Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, gives visitors the
chance to step into Tucker's rich personal life. "Tanya Tucker:
Strong Enough to Bend" runs through May 2015 and features many of
Tucker's favorite items from various eras of her career. From her
pink Harley Davidson to her own line of salsa, Tucker's life is
chronicled in a never-before-seen way for fans to get up close and
personal with the legend.
Tucker never disappoints during her concerts, fans can expect the
same classic, edgy, and unpredictable Tucker along with an indelible
experience any country music fan is guaranteed to love.
